General Summary
With the guidance of one
or more staff or faculty members, graduate assistants perform a mixture of services in support of research, communication, technology,
business operations, or student affairs activities as more than 50% of their service.
Principal Duties and
Responsibilities
Graduate assistants in the Political Science Department have the opportunity to work with all Department
faculty and staff on various projects to assist with the Department, office, MPA program, curriculum, teaching, and research efforts.
Assignments include:
- Assisting faculty with research.
- Assisting faculty and staff in planning conferences/events.
- Organizing Public Administration Club meetings and events.
- Providing teaching assistance in and outside of the classroom.
- Developing surveys and analyzing data.
- Performing communication and event coordination work for undergraduate academic teams
(e.g., Model UN, Moot Court, Mock Trial). - Assisting with other departmental-related duties as required.
Minimum
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will value teamwork and possess strong research and analytical skills.
- Ability
to work up to 20 hours per week (10 for 50%) is required. - GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
- Admission and enrollment in a
graduate program is required. - Maintenance of a 67% course completion is required.
- Enrollment in at least 6 credits for
Fall and Winter semesters is required. - The Staff Graduate Assistant receives a stipend and tuition waiver subject to federal
tax.
Appointment Percentage:
50%
