The Foothill-De
Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Political Science, De Anza
College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
Under the
direction of the Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities Division,the instructor will teach Political Science courses to a diverse student
population at a college committed to student equity. The instructor will be expected to teach a wide spectrum of topics in the discipline in
which they have direct experience as well as a variety of courses in the department. The primary responsibility of a Political Science
Instructor is to teach a variety of college-level courses in multiple fields that fulfill either general education requirements, or an
Associate of Arts degree in Political Science.
Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of
curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service
on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the
opportunity to participate in campus extracurricular activities, shared governance, or any program/departmental leadership role. Faculty
member should be willing to teach in all instructional modalities, including in-person, hybrid, and asynchronous online
formats.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic,
socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and
staff. - Master’s in political science, government, or international relations
OR Bachelor’s in any of
the above AND Master’s in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, and any ethnic studies,
Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.)
OR the equivalent
PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience or demonstrated interest and leadership (e.g. advising students, budget management, supervising
programs, mentoring students, teaching) in experiential and civic engagement learning, such as internships, community-based learning,
service learning, public policy projects, or other applied political participation opportunities. - Experience teaching at the
community college level or demonstrated understanding of the mission, student population, and instructional context of open-access
institutions. - Demonstrated commitment to equity-minded teaching, including experience working with first-generation students,
students of color, justice-impacted students, immigrant students, and/or other historically marginalized populations. - Demonstrated
ability to teach effectively across instructional modalities, including in-person, hybrid, and online formats. Ability to manage and
navigate Learning Management Systems such as CANVAS, Blackboard etc - Ability to teach multiple Political Science subfields,
particularly American Government and at least one additional area such as Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory,
Social Movements, Race and Politics, Leadership & Social Change, Statistics for the Social Sciences, Leadership and Power, Race/Class/Gender
Politics - Experience with curriculum development and revision, including alignment with Course Outlines of Record, Student Learning
Outcomes (SLOs), and program-level assessment. - Demonstrated ability to represent the department thoughtfully and professionally
across programs, divisions, the college, and the district, including clear communication, collaboration, and follow-through. -
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and contribute consistently to department and program needs, including reliability,
follow-through, and support for long-term program stability.

HIRING RANGE: $76,596.00 – $123,297.00 annually plus benefits;
actual placement is based on applicant’s verified education and experience.
