Tenure-Track Faculty: History/Political Science/Success Education
Description
We invite
applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position within the College’s Liberal Arts and Social Sciences division with primary
teaching responsibilities in two of the following disciplines: History, Political Science, and Success Education. Candidates must hold a
master’s degree in either History or Political Science and meet qualifications to teach in at least one additional area (see required
qualifications below). This is a 9-month position anticipated to begin August 2026.
This role contributes to the diversification and
internationalization of the curriculum through courses that center global perspectives and the experiences of underrepresented populations,
fostering students’ understanding of an increasingly interconnected world. HCC faculty in History and Political Science promote civic
engagement, support Veterans’ and underrepresented communities’ histories, and participate in related co-curricular initiatives. Faculty
teaching in Success Education advance student development by supporting academic achievement, career readiness, and personal growth.
The primary duty of faculty members is to teach. In addition to teaching, class preparation, grading, and holding office hours, general
responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Create a learning environment that fosters student success and the attainment
of defined learning outcomes - Participate in developing and reviewing curricula and instructional methods
- Assist in the
articulation of courses within the division - Develop, integrate and evaluate student learning outcomes within the framework of the
Heartland Community College assessment protocols - Remain current in one’s discipline
- Advocate for student persistence and
pathways to completion through cooperation with Student Success and Enrollment Services staff - Manage student issues and problems in
a manner consistent with the Student Handbook - Serve the institution in a variety of ways; examples of service activity include, but
are not limited to, participation on teams and committees, assistance with marketing and recruitment events, and promotion of a collegial
work environment - Participate in program review
The hired individual may be expected to teach a range of courses as
assigned.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in History AND qualifications to teach Political Science (at
least 18 graduate hours in Political Science) OR Success Education (master’s degree with graduate hours in counseling, education and/or
completion of student success training such as On Course, Alternative Life Skills Training, Universal Design for Learning, etc.)
OR
- Master’s degree in Political Science AND qualifications to teach History (at least 18 graduate hours in History) OR
Success Education (master’s degree with graduate hours in counseling, education and/or completion of student success training such as On
Course, Alternative Life Skills Training, Universal Design for Learning, etc.)
AND
- Demonstrated record of
excellence in teaching - Commitment to student success
- Commitment to service
- Availability to teach daytime or
evening classes in person
Desired Qualifications
- Doctoral degree
- Successful community
college teaching experience - Professional experience in a related field.
- Experience using classroom assessment to improve
teaching and learning outcomes - Experience with instructional technology
- Experience/ability to teach online

Anticipated starting salary range for this
9-month position is $48,356 – $65,034, plus any applicable pay for overload and/or summer assignments.
