The School of Civic Leadership (SCL) at The University of Texas
at Austin (UT Austin) invites applications for a full-time professional track position in the Professor of Instruction series with expertise
in the area of Philosophy, Political Theory, Constitutional Law, History, Economics, or Literature.
This position involves teaching a
3/3 course load, with flexibility based on service responsibilities. The role supports the undergraduate experience in the School of Civic
Leadership by fostering student connections, guiding student experience programs, and linking students with UT Austin resources.
Responsibilities include coordinating professional, intellectual, and leadership development opportunities, while building and maintaining
partnerships within and beyond the university. The position also entails collaborating with the School of Civic Leadership faculty and staff
on program logistics, supervising support staff, and contributing to recruitment, curriculum, and other student affairs efforts as
needed.
Considering the responsibility public institutions of higher education have to prepare students for leadership in a free
society, the University of Texas System Board of Regents established the School of Civic Leadership at UT Austin in 2023. School of Civic
Leadership is an interdisciplinary school whose dual mission is to equip students with the knowledge and aptitudes necessary to lead in a
free society, and to produce academic research at the highest levels of scholarly excellence.
The School of Civic Leadership offers a
minor in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) in collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts and will launch a new Civics Honors
major and Civics minor in the 2025-26 academic year.
Qualifications
We seek outstanding candidates in the areas of
Philosophy, Political Theory, Constituional Law, History and/or Economics whose work speaks to the School of Civic Leadership core themes:
political, economic, and individual liberty and its philosophical underpinnings; constitutionalism and the rule of law; and the political
economy of a free society. Ideal candidates will (1) have excellent records of scholarship with robust research agendas, (2) provide
evidence of exceptional teaching, and (3) show a readiness to contribute to the intellectual life, governance, and programmatic development
of the school.
Application Instructions
The School of Civic Leadership invites applicants to submit a cover letter,
curriculum vitae, and list of three academic references. (References do not need to submit full letters at this stage.) Cover letters should
give a brief overview of the candidate’s research agenda, highlight areas of teaching competence, and concisely describe how the candidate
would contribute to developing the school.
