Position Description:


The Center for Asian Democracy at the University of Louisville is pleased to announce a Visiting Professor position, intended for researchers in the postdoctoral stage of their career, in the area of democracy and human rights in Asia. Applicants with a substantive research focus related to the role of religion, nationalism, ethnicity, or culture in democratic politics, and advanced quantitative research methods training (particularly experimental and quasi-experimental design and analysis), are especially welcomed. The position is open with regard to geographic focus within the region. We welcome candidates with degrees in Political Science or related social science fields.

The position is for the academic year 2025-2026, with the potential for one renewal. Applicants must hold a PhD by September 1, 2025. The successful candidate will conduct research on a proposed individual project; collaborate closely with faculty affiliates of the Center for Asian Democracy on a shared research project; present research to faculty and graduate students; participate in activities at the Center for Asian Democracy; and contribute to planning CAD events and initiatives. The candidate should expect to teach one course during the academic year, provided their expertise fits with departmental needs. The salary and benefits package are competitive, and include funding for research/conference expenses.



The Visiting Professor is expected to be in residence during the academic year in Louisville, and to participate actively in the intellectual life of the University.

The mission of the Center for Asian Democracy, established in 2006, is to promote research and teaching about democracy and the prospects for democratization in Central, South, Southeast and East Asia. Through publications, conferences, workshops, visiting scholars programs, colloquia, and research projects in Asian countries, the Center creates a forum for studying political dynamics in this vital region.
