Position Title: Assistant Professor
Department: Political Science
Provide a brief
statement of the position duties: Teach both undergraduate and graduate classes in the area of Public Administration such as
budgeting, public policy, state and local government, American government or municipal government. Teach 12 credits per semester. Teach
multiple subjects within the Public Administration and Political Science fields including the following: Environmental Management – Upper
Peninsula; Research Methods of Public Administration (An examination of quantitative research methods designed for students of public
administration and public policy. It introduces the scientific method, research design, data measurement and analysis); Principles of Public
Administration (An introduction to theory and practice of the management of public affairs. Emphasis is placed on several themes and
conceptual problems consistently appearing in the professional literature of public administration); Political and Administrative Aspects of
Community Development (The political and administrative dimensions of community development. Students probe the administrative aspects of
managing a planning process while considering the political realities of implementation); Public Budget Management (The major concepts,
approaches, techniques and formats of public budgeting in the U.S., especially as these are applied to the local government setting. The
objectives are to delineate and understand the various components and practices of budget planning, development, execution, auditing and
evaluation. Additionally, the course will serve to enhance participant awareness and understanding of management issues and typical problems
involved in the budgeting cycle and the methods used to address these); Experiential Applications Seminar; (This seminar serves as a
capstone experience. Candidates complete a graduate research project report); and Humanity and Technology (This course investigates the
positive and negative impacts of technology on society, including society’s response to new technology. Compelling ethical issues are
examined, in engineering, public safety and health, athletic performance enhancement, weapons technology, privacy and surveillance, the
Internet, and forensic technology).
Required Education:
PhD or equivalent terminal degree (or foreign
equivalent)
Discipline/Degree Area:
Political Science, Public Administration, or closely related field from
an accredited institution
Required Specialized Training/Certifications:
Must have earned a Ph.D or
equivalent terminal degree, (or foreign equivalent) in Political Science, Public Administration, or closely related field from an accredited
institution. Six (6) months of university-level teaching experience at both the graduate and undergraduate level in public administration
and political science in two (2) or more of the following areas: budgeting, nonprofit management, public policy, state and local government,
American government, or municipal government is required
Required Minimum Work Experience:
