Job Title: Adjunct – Political Science with Pre-Law Component

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • We are seeking a candidate who can teach a variety of Pre-Law classes in person, such as POL 3010 – Race and American Law, POL 4000- Legal Problem Solving and Skills Development, and POL 4001- Supreme Court and Constitutional Law. The ability to also teach American National Government is preferred.
  • Teach in-person undergraduate courses in specific content areas as assigned by the department chairperson.
  • Prepares syllabi that meet department and university standards.
  • Prepares meaningful classroom experiences, which include a variety of pedagogical strategies, including lectures, discussion, tests and exams.
  • Compiles, administers, and grades examinations.
  • Participates in assessment activities by submitting data of student learning outcomes in a timely fashion.
  • In addition, all other relevant duties as assigned by the Chair.


EDUCATION:

  • J.D. degree in related field required. J.D. / Ph.D. preferred.


EXPERIENCE:

  • Some teaching experience as the instructor of record in an undergraduate/graduate institution is required.
  • The candidate must be an Attorney at Law and conversant with law school admission requirements and how to prepare students for entry and success in law school.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a J.D.
  • Must have teaching experience.
  • Must be able to work with little or no supervision.
  • Must be able to make decisions supporting the department’s mission and goals.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Must have interpersonal skills, and the ability to work within a culturally diverse organization.
  • Must have a high level of professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Must have ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule including possible evening and weekend work. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, and bend and reach.
