SUMMARY:You Are Democracy: Flourishing Community Meetings
DESCRIPTION:A civic imagination gathering for everyone who wants better public engagement and more input in actual decision-making spaces.\n\n\nWorking together\, Bard College’s Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities\, The Assembly Project\, People’s Creative Institute \, Columbia World Projects\, and The Civic Engagement Commission in collaboration with Powerhouse Arts are excited to present “You Are Democracy: A Series on Collective Power\,” a three-part event series focused on democracy beyond elections. This series will include a film screening\, model civic assembly\, and a celebratory reimagining of a public meeting. \nJoin us for an evening that reimagines what civic life can feel like. Flourishing Community Meetings is a warm\, art-infused gathering where neighbors\, organizers\, and dreamers come together to imagine the futures our city deserves. Over good food\, live music\, and guided creative exercises\, participants will listen to visionary storytellers\, reflect in small groups\, and co-create bold civic ideas through fun and creative means. Together we’ll build a living “Manifesto of Possible Futures” — a collective snapshot of what becomes possible when creativity\, community\, and belonging shape public life. Come ready to dream\, play\, and co-author new possibilities for New York City. \nThe event will be hosted by artist Yazmany Arboleda (The People’s Institute) with guest speakers Caron Atlas (Arts & Democracy)\, Sulu LeoNimm (Theatre of the Oppressed NYC)\, and Johnny Thornton (Arts Gowanus) and a special musical performance by Púyaloahí. DESCRIPTION:.\n\n\nPlease join Perry World House for a timely conversation examining the U.S. government policy and actions toward Venezuela\, including strikes on Venezuelan boats and the people on board. \nOver the recent weeks\, Venezuela has surged back into global headlines amid escalating geopolitical tensions. The United States has conducted military strikes against Venezuelan boats in international waters\, raising questions about the legality of the Trump administration’s actions. Our panel will explore why the United States has chosen to act now\, what strategic objectives are shaping current policy\, and how these decisions are being interpreted across Latin America and beyond. As the situation on the ground continues to shift\, experts will assess potential endgames for U.S.–Venezuela relations\, and the international law implications. \n\n\n \nSPEAKERS\nSamantha Vinograd leads Brunswick’s U.S. geopolitical practice.
