Students then participate in a United Nations briefing and United Nations Headquarters Tour. Recommended for girls and boys ages 9-17. \nWhat is this Youth Day all about? \nInternational Youth Day is commemorated every year on 12 August\, bringing youth issues to the attention of the international community and celebrating the potential of youth as partners in today’s global society. \nThe idea for International Youth Day was proposed in 1991 by the young people who were gathered in Vienna\, Austria\, for the first session of the World Youth Forum of the United Nations System. The Forum recommended that an International Youth Day be declared\, especially for fund-raising and promotional purposes\, to support the United Nations Youth Fund in partnership with youth organizations. \nIn 1998\, a resolution proclaiming 12 August as International Youth Day was adopted by the first session of the the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth \, which was hosted by the Government of Portugal in cooperation with the United Nations (Lisbon\, 8-12 August 1998). That recommendation was subsequently endorsed by the fifty-fourth session of the General Assembly\, in its resolution A/RES/54/120 entitled “Policies and programmes involving youth” (17 December 1999). \nThe Assembly recommended that public information activities be organized to support the Day as a way to promote better awareness of the World Programme of Action for Youth \, adopted by the General Assembly in 1996. \nSecurity Council Resolution 2250 (9 December 2015 ) on Youth\, Peace and Security represents an unprecedented acknowledgement of the urgent need to engage young peacebuilders in promoting peace and countering extremism\, and clearly positions youth as important partners in the global efforts. Camp Parliament for Girls London begins with a lesson the structure and history of the British Parliament. The lesson goes on to review the eligibility requirements to stand for office\, a review of political parties\, a study of the structure of elections and recognition of the UK’s female political leaders. Students will form political parties\, create a campaign platform to stand for office\, vote in an election and form a government to pass a law. Ticketing options for girls ages 8-11 and 12-17. Please no solicitation emails or calls. Parents may wait at the venue for the duration of the camp in any of the lounge or seating area throughout the hotel. The meeting room space capacity can only accommodate students and staff. \nIs the registration fee refundable? The registration fee is non-refundable unless the organizer cancels the session. If a participant is unable to attend a session a credit will be placed on file that may be used at any time for a future program. The credit does not expire. \nIs this a partisan program or supported by a political party? No\, the Girls in Politics Initiative is an independent organization that is self-funded through the fees generated from hosting sessions. The curriculum is civic education. \nIs financial assistance available? Due to rising costs associated with hosting events\, there is no financial assistance available for this event and there is no promo code for this event. \nWho are the instructors? Our Lead Instructors are women that currently or have previously worked in government or electoral politics. Our support staffers are current or former licensed teachers. All instructors and support staff undergo background screening. All instructors and support staff are also in compliance with any local ordinances or state/provincial regulations applicable to those working with children.
