SUMMARY:Girls in Politics Initiative DC Summer Intensive
DESCRIPTION:A summer program in the heart of the nation’s capital with girls surrounded by national monuments and exploring how government works.\n\n\nThe Girls in Politics Initiative DC Summer Intensive 2025 program takes place in the heart of the nation’s capital with participants surrounded by national monuments and staying just blocks from the United States Capitol. Participants explore the District of Columbia and during classroom sessions learn about the United States political system. Participants choose to run their own mock campaign for United States House of Representatives\, United States Senate or for United States President. During the program participants meet with legislators\, congressional staff and women working as professionals in the political sector. Parents and guardians are responsible for travel and accommodations for students traveling to Washington\, DC to attend the program. This is a not a residential program. For students traveling to the District of Columbia\, we recommend booking accommodations at Residence Inn National Mall\, Hilton Washington DC National Mall\, Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill or Kimpton George Hotel. Parents and guardians can email the Girls in Politics Initiative at info@girlsinpolitics.com for additional information or request a virtual information session to speak directly with the registrar. Financial aid is not available for this program. We recommend registering early using the deposit option. Registration closes March 1\, 2025 at 11:55pmPT. \nMonday | Day 1 \nClassroom: Orientation with introduction to the United States government\, United States National Archives and Smithsonian Museum of American History \nTuesday | Day 2 \nUnited States Supreme Court tour with courtroom lecture\, Library of Congress and *Bureau of Engraving & Printing \nWednesday | Day 3 \nUnited States Capitol Tour\, United States House and United States Senate Galleries and Meeting with legislators and legislative staff Library of Congress \nThursday | Day 4 \nClassroom: Campaigning and careers\, careers in the political sector\, campaign finance and elections \nFriday | Day 5 \nThe *FBI Experience or *United States Pentagon Tour and Classroom: The Presidency and serving in Congress \n*Reservation subject to approval \nAge and Program Capacity \nThis summer program is intended for girls between the ages of 12 and 17. The program capacity is 30 strictly limited to students. \nRegistration \nRegistration closes March 1\, 2025 at 11:55pmPT. The registration fee includes all program materials and four Girls in Politics Initiative shirts.  Payment in full of the registration fee at time of registration in the amount of $1200. \nAttire \nParticipants should wear comfortable attire that includes athletic shoes. Each participant will receive five Girls in Politics Initiative shirts to wear during the program. \nCancellation Policy \nThe registration fee is non-refundable. If a participant is unable to attend for any reason\, a voucher for the tuition paid up to the date cancellation will be issued. The voucher may be used for any future program and will not expire. Vouchers can only be redeemed once.
