2025 United Nations Youth Commemoration for International Day of Peace
September 12 @ 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Event description:
The United Nation’s annual youth commemoration of the International Day of Peace will be held at United Nations Headquarters on Friday, 12 September 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The theme for the 2025 International Day of Peace is: “Act Now for a More Peaceful World.” This theme is a call to action that recognizes young people as agents of change who play a vital role in fostering a culture of peace for all.
The United Nations traditionally commemorates this day with the Peace Bell Ceremony, followed by a youth event. This year, in lieu of a formal, large youth event, students will have the opportunity to engage in intimate roundtable discussions on themes related to Peace and Security, moderated by influential leaders. Students will also be included in the Peace Bell Ceremony.
Each student will be asked to propose concrete, practicable ideas about how they can build and support peace initiatives in their own lives – and be ready to share them at the roundtables. Prompts and general guidance for the presentations will be shared in the coming weeks. We recommend that students begin working on their presentations over the summer, as the International Day of Peace falls at the very beginning of the 2025–2026 school year. Students’ written proposals, anonymously or credited, which may serve as youth inputs for the Secretary-General’s Youth, Peace, and Security report in the coming year.
Students will all participate in a United Nations tour, a United Nations briefing and Peacekeeping virtual reality experience.
